Worth Alliance won a 2025 D-Prize in the Poverty Graduation Challenge in Kenya. With that support, we have launched the Building Resilience in Kenya (BRiK) pre-pilot in Busia County, working with farming households, most of them headed by women.
What the BRiK package provides
- Productive capital, provided in phases and starting with seeds
- Temporary weekly consumption support
- Introductory agricultural training
- Ongoing field mentoring, beginning with seedling beds
- Support to reach markets
Productive capital follows an Income Sharing Agreement. There is no fixed interest or conventional repayment schedule. Participants contribute only from future verified profits, so recovered funds can support more households.
Community-led from the start
Households were identified through community wealth ranking, household verification and a baseline assessment, with local chiefs and sub-chiefs helping to identify and validate who is eligible. Every participant has a community mentor who walks alongside them in the field.
Looking ahead
Building a model that produces credible, sustained and dignified outcomes will be the real measure of success. We will share what we learn as the pilot progresses.
